Peter Brown – Founder and Musical Director
Peter Brown is the Founder and Musical Director of the Rock Festival Choir.
He is a highly experienced musical director and performer, and has sung in choirs since he was eight. A Grade 8 pianist and organist at 16, he also became assistant organist in his large local parish church in Somerset at the same age. As organ scholar at University College, Oxford, he was principally responsible for conducting the chapel choir. He also found time to be a leading member of the university’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society, taking many lead roles. After university, he sang for many years with the Oxford Bach Choir, performing with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He also sang with the Oxford Pro Musica Singers, with whom he made four CDs, and which was runner up in the Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year competition.
Peter has composed six musicals, all of which have been performed in the schools where he has taught and he uses these now in the history/music/drama workshops he runs. He has also directed musicals for the Duchess’s High School and is the Musical Director of the Duchess's Community High School Choir. He is the Musical Director of the Alnwick Stage Musical Society and a Director of Alnwick Youth Theatre. Having run a ‘Find your Voice’ course in conjunction with ‘20,000 Voices’, he now leads The Alnwick Playhouse Community Choir, a group of some seventy singers. He is Musical Director of the Alnwick and District Choral Society which gives concerts of the choral classics.
Peter proactively encourages and inspires participation and sheer enjoyment in music and singing, working with people of all ages and experience.
